Welcome to Dark Horse Racing, LLC Eden, NC

The Edward family established its racing roots back in the early years of NASCAR, through Tony’s grandfather, who had established friendships with Bill France, Sr., and driver Barney Oldfield. Tony has carried on the family racing tradition as an Owner/Driver and the family tradition will continue through his son, Rusty, who also serves in the Owner/Driver role. Dark Horse Racing has established itself as a premiere team in motorsports, having competed in various racing series including The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), The National Auto Sport Association (NASA), the Texas A&M Sports Car Club (TAMSCC), and the American Speed Association (ASA)
The team was crowned 2003 Touring Class “C” Champions in The Arizona Sports Racing Association (ASRA).
In addition, Tony also holds a Road Racing Class Championship with the Texas A&M Sports Car Club (TAMSCC) and an Autocross Class Championship with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA).
For the 2025 Season, DHR will be competing in three very exciting, yet very different racing series. We will be competing in the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series at Hickory Motor Speedway in the Super Truck division with Tony Edward piloting the DHR #5 Chevy Silverado Super Truck. We will also be competing in the Orange County Speedway Weekly Racing Series in the Mod-4 division with Tony Edward piloting his new DHR #5 Ford Mustang Mod-4 and Rusty Edward piloting his new DHR #96 Ford Mustang Mod-4
In addition, both Tony and Rusty will be competing in the Sports Car Club of America Summit Racing Equipment Road Racing Series. Tony will be piloting the DHR #06 Mazda RX-7 and Rusty will be piloting the DHR #96 Mazda RX-7 in the ITA/IT7 Class.
Tony first started racing in 1982 in SCCA Rallye Events, moved into Autocross, and then made the jump to SCCA Road Racing. Along the way, he's competed in other series as well including ASRA, NASA, TAMSCC, and NASCAR, racing in a variety of sports cars and race truck series, accumulating three Class Championships in SCCA, ASRA, and TAMSCC! In addition to his racing endeavors at DHR, Tony is also a North Carolina certified Paramedic, serving with Jan-Care Ambulance Service in Durham, NC.
Rusty started his racing career in 2009, competing in the Phoenix Kart Racing Association (AZ). Rusty has tested an ASA Speed Truck for ATK Racing and most recently, tested a Dirt Outlaw Kart at Millbridge Speedway in Salisbury, NC.
In addition to his racing endeavors as a Co-Owner/Driver for DHR, Rusty is also a North Carolina certified Firefighter, as well as a North Carolina certified Paramedic, serving with
Jan-Care Ambulance Service in Durham, NC.
Dark Horse Racing, LLC, is pleased to announce that for the 2025 racing season, we are competing full-time with the DHR #5 Chevy Silverado Super Truck in the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series at Hickory Motor Speedway. We will be making our "Maiden" voyage at HMS on Saturday, June 28th, 2025. Tony Edward, Co-Owner/Driver of DHR, will be behind the wheel of the DHR #5 for this race, with Rusty Edward, Co-Owner/Driver of DHR, handling the Spotter duties for this race.
"As many of our fans are aware, DHR competes in NASCAR with the #5 Super Truck, as well as two Mod 4 Ford Mustangs (#5 and #96) respectively at Orange County Speedway. In addition, we also run two 1st Gen Mazda RX-7s in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), however, our primary focus is on our NASCAR Super Truck program. In fact, we are planning on adding a second NASCAR Super Truck to our stable later this season, thereby campaigning two trucks in this fantastic NASCAR series", states Tony Edward.
"We last ran the truck at the end of last season at Anderson Motor Speedway (SC) under the Southeast Super Truck Series (SEST), but after that race, the SEST series shut down. With a new Super Truck purchased, we then found ourselves searching for a sanctioned and competitive Truck series in which to compete, and by the Grace of God, we found our home track at HMS", says Rusty Edward.
"As Tony mentioned, the very short term goal is to add a second Super Truck to the team this season and keep our focus and priority on racing the trucks in the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series at HMS. Our long term goal, within the next 24 months, is to move up to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series". Such is a bold statement from an outside perspective, but we've been racing long enough to understand what it takes to lay the foundation for success from within the business of racing. With such knowledge and experience gained, we've achieved a total of three Championships in three separate series which include TAMSCC Class Championship (TX, SCCA Autocross Championship (TX), and ASRA Touring Class B Championship (AZ)", Rusty continued.
