The Edward family established its racing roots back in the early years of NASCAR, through Tony’s grandfather, who had established friendships with Bill France, Sr., and driver Barney Oldfield. Tony has carried on the family racing tradition as an Owner/Driver and the family tradition will continue through his son, Rusty, who also serves in the Owner/Driver role. Dark Horse Racing has established itself as a premiere team in motor sports, having competed in various racing series including The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), The National Auto Sport Association (NASA), the Texas A&M Sports Car Club (TAMSCC), and the American Speed Association (ASA)
The team was crowned 2003 Touring Class “C” Champions in The Arizona Sports Racing Association (ASRA).
In addition, Tony also holds a Road Racing Class Championship with the Texas A&M Sports Car Club (TAMSCC) and an Autocross Class Championship with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA).
For the 2024 Season, DHR will be competing in two very exciting, yet very different racing series. We will be competing in the NASCAR ADVANCE AUTO PARTS WEEKLY SERIES, with Tony Edward piloting the MOD 4 DHR #06 Ford Mustang and Rusty Edward piloting his new MOD 4 DHR #96 Ford Mustang at Orange County Speedway.
In addition, both Tony and Rusty will be competing in the Sports Car Club of America Summit Racing Equipment Road Racing Series. Tony will be piloting the DHR #06 Mazda RX-7 and Rusty will be piloting the DHR #96 Mazda RX-7, both competing for the ITS/IT7 Regional Championship.
Tony first started racing in 1982 in SCCA Rallye Events, moved into Autocross, and then made the jump to SCCA Road Racing. Along the way, he's competed in other series as well including ASRA, NASA, TAMSCC, and NASCAR, racing in a variety of sports cars and race truck series, accumulating three Class Championships in SCCA, ASRA, and TAMSCC! In addition to his racing endeavors at DHR, Tony is also a North Carolina certified Paramedic, serving with Jan-Care Ambulance Service in Durham, NC.
Rusty started his racing career in 2009, competing in the Phoenix Kart Racing Association (AZ). Rusty has tested an ASA Speed Truck for ATK Racing and most recently, tested a Dirt Outlaw Kart at Millbridge Speedway in Salisbury, NC.
In addition to his racing endeavors as a Co-Owner/Driver for DHR, Rusty is also a North Carolina certified Firefighter, as well as a North Carolina certified Paramedic, serving with

Dark Horse Racing, LLC, in association with Dwight Huffman Racing (https://www.dwighthuffmanracing.com), is pleased to announce that Tony Edward will be piloting the #5 Chevy Truck this Saturday night, August 17th, 2024 at Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, SC.
"This is a huge opportunity not only for myself as a driver, but for Dark Horse Racing, LLC, our race team that Rusty (Edward) and myself built from the ground up over the past three and a half years. This deal came together pretty quickly for us, as I spoke with Ashley Huffman on the phone and we put this deal together in about 10 minutes."
"For me, personally, this is in a sense coming full circle, as I raced the Truly Nolen ASA Speed Truck back in the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) UltraShield Truck Series in 1999, having placed 5th in the Championship points standings, back when I resided in Arizona. I last ran a ASA Speed Truck in 2011 at the Speedway Willow Springs 1/4 mile Oval track when I tested for ATK Motorsports. The Super Trucks/Speed Trucks have always been in my blood from the very first time I strapped into the Truly Nolen truck. In addition to this upcoming race on Saturday night, I'm hoping we can get one more race in before the end of this season!
Rusty Edward, Driver and Co-Owner of Dark Horse Racing, explains "We expanded our racing program from running Mini Stock and Mod 4 at Orange County Speedway to also running two Mazda RX-7s in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), thus running asphalt oval track and road courses. Our primary goal for 2025 is to run the complete Southeast Super Truck Series schedule with two trucks. We'll still run the oval track cars at OCS, as well as the SCCA program, but our primary focus will be the truck series. This opportunity to run the #5 Chevy Truck Saturday night is indeed a huge opportunity for us and we are beyond thrilled to work with Ashley and his team at Dwight Huffman Racing!"
